Hawkesbury’s Helping Hands
We provide numerous services to people in the Hawkesbury and surrounding areas. Many of these people contact us direct and others are referred to us by different agencies.
Rendering assistance can range from providing warm clothing or bedding, through to basic food items, emergency food hampers and a hot meal.
Here are some brief details of a few services that our wonderful Volunteers provide:
Located at the Cnr The Terrace & Fitzgerald St Windsor, free mails are available to any person, without question or judgement.
Evening meals are served on Saturday and Sunday between 4pm and 6pm. Lunchtime meals are available on Wednesday between 12pm and 1.30pm. When possible, our patrons are provided with a take away meal to enjoy later and help them get through the evening feeling a bit more contented.
The Breakfast Club
This service operates 8am – 9.45am on Mondays, Wednesday and Fridays at Windsor High School.
All students are welcome to have some toast, cereals or arrange a sandwich for lunchtime. Fresh fruit and drinks are also provided.
We are currently providing meals for an average of 30-50 students per day and the “Brain Food” allows them to focus on learning, without a rumbling tummy.
The Shower Bus
Provided in conjunction with One Voice , we are helping to restore people’s dignity one shower at a time. The bus is equipped with two showers, together with washing machines and a clothes dryer. The bus has water tanks holding over 2000 litres of clean water and all dirty waste water is held in a holding tank and disposed of by approved methods.
The bus attends the meal services on Wednesday lunchtime and Sunday evening, 4pm – 6pm. A big thank you to Tim Warne who is so helpful, he assists us in every way possible and he is loved by one and all.
We generally deliver between 25 and 35 emergency hampers each week to our patrons. It may be 1pm or 3am, but we will do what we can to help these people as much as possible.
The Hampers are designed as much as possible to suit the people that it is being delivered to. eg. Baby Food would be included in a family package, warm clothing for those that are homeless.
These hampers are compiled using goods and products that we have purchased through cash donations, ir by using products that have been specifically donated and with the aid of products and goods donated by other Charities and Businesses that we partner with.
